Visit Essex is encouraging everyone to step out and enjoy ‘egg-cellent’ Essex this Easter. Here’s their top things to see and do.

Councillor Mark Durham, Chair of Visit Essex, says: “Everyone needs something to look forward to, so book yourself a special day out. Stroll through beautiful bluebell woods, enjoy an Easter egg hunt and take in a farm or two to see new-born farm animals.”

Egg-cellent Essex

Keep the children entertained by going on an egg hunt! Enjoy a day out in the countryside at Layer Marney Tower in Colchester. The attraction not only boasts the tallest Tudor Gatehouse in the UK, it also impresses with Easter egg hunts for all the family. Toddlers can take on the Easter egg hunt, which takes place on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday (9 and 10 April) at 12pm and 2pm. Whilst adults and children can enter the egg and spoon race! Layer Marney farm is also offering tractor rides to see the new-born lambs. Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children.

Enjoy an egg hunt with a difference at Colchester Zoo! The attraction is home to over 180 species across 60 acres of parkland and lakes. This year, the zoo is hosting an Easter Eggstravaganza, where visitors can find out more about reptiles and birds by completing a trail. Guests will also be treated to meet and greets with baby dinosaurs, such as a T-Rex, Velociraptor, Triceratops and Spinosaurus. The fun takes place from 1-16 April. Tickets start at £25.64 for adults and £19.47 for children aged 3-15 https://www.visitessex.com/things-to-do/colchester-zoo-p1269771.

Take on a steam powered egg hunt at Audley End’s Miniature Railway in Saffron Walden! Ride deep into the woods to meet Alice in Wonderland and the Easter bunny, and spot spring chicks, bunnies and colourful eggs along the way. The event runs from 1-16 April, tickets priced £17.

Easter fun for animal lovers

Enjoy a day up close with pigs, rabbits, goats, ducks and alpacas at Essex’s much-loved Marsh Farm in South Woodham Ferrers. Join in the Great Easter Eggstravaganza, where guests will be treated to an Easter Bunny show, plus lots of Easter fun. The event runs from 1-16 April, general tickets (aged 2+) start from £14.99. Stroll amongst the bluebells!

The blooming of magnificent bluebells in ancient woodlands is another reason for a visit to Essex. Set in mature woodland, Essex Wildlife Trust’s Hanningfield Nature Discovery Centre, near Chelmsford, has a beautiful carpet of bluebells and offers superb views alongside its 870-acre reservoir. It is also home to some well-loved characters from the Wind in the Willows stories – https://www.visitessex.com/things-to-do/hanningfield-nature-discovery-park-p1267641.
