Based in Bishop’s Stortford, Accuro helps providing services and activities that are safe, fun, and inclusive and aims to reduce social isolation among its users by developing life skills, as well as giving short break respite for families and carers.

The charity was recently selected to receive the donation by staff at Barratt and David Wilson Homes as one of the developer’s two Charities of the Year.

Sue Fishpool, Fundraising Manager at Accuro, said: “We were absolutely delighted when Barratt and David Wilson Homes told us about the donation. It was a wonderful surprise as the COVID-19 pandemic has made any kind of fundraising very difficult, impossible in some instances and to receive such a significant donation was great news.

“The donation will help Accuro to fund social and leisure services that empower members through building confidence, independence, and self-esteem and by making friends.”

Guests of the service take part in activities such as life skills workshops, arts and crafts sessions, and outings in the community like bowling, cinema trips and visits to the zoo.

A parent of a child that uses Accuro said: “Accuro provides a service which directly improves our daughters’ life and indirectly improves her siblings’ lives. It is the most valuable service we have had the fortune to use since our daughter’s birth.

“Our daughter is largely excluded from activities aimed at her age group – Brownies, Dance and others, and Accuro allows her to experience the camaraderie of being in a group, practice independence and all the while being safe.”

Simon Wood, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: “Accuro is a wonderful charity which is doing invaluable work in the local community, providing a chance for children and adults with disabilities to learn important life skills in a fun and safe environment.

“We’re delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the charity’s support through making them one of our two Charities of the Year, and it’s a real privilege to learn how much of a difference our donation can make to the lives of these deserving families.”
