A schoolboy who was inspired into raising money for a military charity has been honoured at an awards ceremony.

Ethan Metcalfe, 10, from Brentwood, was presented with a ‘Hero’ award at Help for Heroes’ Tedworth House Recovery Centre on Friday night (October 20).

The youngster has taken part in a number of fundraising events since 2014, and has been very active in raising awareness of the Charity, via bake and table top sales, as well as mini endurance events.

He was then introduced to Veteran and beneficiary Lee Patmore in 2016, who helped him train for a mini marathon in and around Brentwood Leisure Centre, where he worked.

His charitable efforts failed to escape the attention of Help for Heroes volunteers and staff, leading to his nomination and eventual awarding of the Charity’s highest honour.
