Local rally raises £500 for Colchester-based homelessness charity

On Friday 1 September, the Colchester District & Lambretta Club (DVLC) hosted the 25th anniversary of the Mersea Island Scooter Rally, raising £500 for Emmaus Colchester.

Emmaus Colchester provides a home and meaningful work for up to 34 people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion, offering them an alternative route out of homelessness and a fantastic way of life within a supportive environment.

Companions work full time while they are at Emmaus selling and upcycling second-hand furniture and household items at its Emmaus Emporium, Emmaus Home and Emmaus charity shops. The income generated through Emmaus’ shops goes straight back into the community and enables companions to develop skills, rebuild their self-respect and help others in greater need than themselves.

The scooter club will be coming to the Emmaus Colchester shop (99 High Street, CO1 1TH) on Saturday 4 November to present the local charity with a cheque for £500. Denise King, General Manager of Emmaus Colchester, will be in attendance along with several of the charities trustees and companions, who will directly benefit from the money raised.
