Sad title for longest stay cat at South Essex charity

A cat being cared for by volunteers at a South Essex charity has inherited the sad title of the longest stay resident after being overlooked by potential adopters for more than 300 days.

Four-year-old Felix is currently being cared for by Cats Protection Rayleigh, Castle Point & District, living with one of the team’s volunteer fosterers. While his every need is catered for this is no substitute for him finding a permanent home where he can settle down.

The all-black beauty found himself homeless after his previous owner moved to somewhere that would not allow pets.

He has since proved himself to be super-friendly and loves playtime and strokes.

Fosterer Sarah Churcher said: “Felix is a pleasure to have around and as time goes on he gets more and more comfortable, which then makes him even more loving.

“He usually has 15 mins of zoomies then he falls asleep next to me on the sofa and stays there until bedtime.

“We have been left scratching our heads as to why Felix has been overlooked for so long. He has such an excellent temperament and would quickly become an ideal companion to anyone wanting a lap cat.

“While up to now he has been an indoor only cat, we think he would benefit from access to a garden where he can explore and play as he is such an energetic boy.”

Felix has previously experienced a urinary infection, a common occurrence in male cats, so he is given a readily-available special diet food to prevent it happening again, along with a tablet a day. He would be best suited to an adult home or one with older children.
