East of England Businesses Growing in Confidence as Local Efforts Continue to Pay Off

At the end of June, a new report surveying business confidence across Britain found East of England firms to be even more confident than the national average. Overall, the index marked a seven-point increase in business confidence in the region, which puts it up to 53 per cent. Additionally, confidence in the economy grew by 14 points to 46 per cent, while overall optimism in their own business prospects held at 60 per cent.

This follows a series of confidence-boosting efforts by local authorities across the region and through business innovations. Perhaps helping to spur confidence among East of England businesses, investment has been on the rise – in one area, the amount of investment outpaced the UK average.

When businesses can find it easier to access investment, confidence grows. Back in the first quarter of 2024, it was reported that investment in the area of East Anglia beat the UK average. In Q1 of last year, £335 million was invested through venture capitalists in local businesses. A total of 24 deals were completed across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridge, and Essex, marking a significant windfall.

Business support has extended beyond venture capital funding. The British Business Bank’s second annual Impact Report, relayed by Essex Magazine on 22 July, showed that 2,200 businesses in the East of England had been supported by the funding project. As a result, the region’s economy was boosted by some £800 million across the 2024/25 period.

Getting Innovative

Businesses across the UK employ various strategies to innovate and boost performance. A classic that remains very popular, particularly among competitive online businesses, is the welcome offer.

This spans all kinds of UK businesses. You’ve got bonus bingo offering funds and free spinsto introduce players to play bingo online, play slots online, and play bingo at bingo halls. Then, there are the first-order-free offers, such as with food delivery or ingredient ordering services, and regular free samples found dotted around the internet and in some stores.

In the East of England, further efforts have been made to empower businesses. One such effort comes in the form of Business Improvement Districts, where a small percentage of business rates funds surrounding projects.

This can result in many different helpful tasks being completed, such as street cleaning in Norwich and digital marketing boosts in Ipswich. BIDs prove to reduce crime, increase footfall, and, as noted earlier, increase business confidence. Then, the East of England has also upped its efforts in the business expo circuit. In the spring of this year, the ‘Made in the East of England, Sold to the World’ roadshow proved a success in connecting regional businesses with broader markets.

Looking Forward

Businesses across the East of England are riding a wave of financial support and increased confidence. Going forward, this will inspire more to get innovative, boost their business prospects further, and continue to build up the business sector of the region.
