A regular Braintree Street Market trader, Olivia’s Curiosities, is gearing up for the finals of the National Market Traders Federation Young Traders Competition at Waterside in Stratford-upon-Avon on the bank holiday weekend Friday and Saturday 25 and 26 August.

Olivia Washington was highly commended in the regional finals of the Young Traders Competition on the 27 July in Bury St Edmunds.

Olivia has entered the Young Traders Competition and reached the finals for the past four years with their stall Olivia’s Curiosities which sells fabric and handmade art. This will be the last year Olivia competes in the competition which is aimed at young entrepreneurs — aged between 16 and 30.

The winner of the competition wins a prestigious trophy, £500 cash and a mobile credit card terminal.

Olivia has been trading at Braintree’s monthly street market since 2019, beginning with a pop-up stall before graduating to a gazebo.

Olivia said: “’Seeing as I’m officially old, I want to really give it my all this year and put my best foot forward.

“I am so grateful to the NMTF and all the friends I’ve made along the way. They’ve all helped me grow, both personally and with the business too. These last 4 years competing have been the best summers I could have asked for. Even if I don’t win, I’m still a winner.

“If you are aged between 16-30 and have a small business, definitely reach out, if not for a win, then for the growth. It’s a fantastic opportunity and I’m always available to chat about it.”

Cllr Frankie Ricci, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Inward Investment at Braintree District Council said: “I wish Olivia the greatest of luck for the upcoming competition, it is fantastic to see local traders doing so well and reaching the final of a national competition.

“Our monthly street market is a superb monthly event, with a range of diverse stalls including street food, handmade items, unique gifts and local produce. Our next event will be on Saturday 26 August.”
