Councillors have agreed to install CCTV cameras at Wickford Memorial Park.

This was approved by the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee on 9 July 2019 but confirmed at this week’s committee (Wednesday 27 November) where councillors agreed to the proposals to install CCTV cameras in the park at a cost of £26,494.

Installation of the cameras have just started and is expected to be complete next week.

Chairman of Basildon Council’s Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee Councillor David Harrison said: “These cameras will help to make people feel safer whilst using the park and capture images that can be used by the police as evidence if a crime takes place. The decision to install CCTV was taken in consultation with the police and we are committed to working with them to provide safe parks for our residents to enjoy.”
