Harlow Council’s splash parks at Staple Tye and Potter Street will open a month earlier than usual this year, welcoming families from Monday 22 June 2026.

The early opening is part of a wider package of improvements announced in February to the town’s popular community facilities. Several upgrades have been shaped directly by residents’ feedback.

At Potter Street, visitors can look forward to new landscaping, improved surfacing and additional water features.

Paddling pools at Bush Fair, Norman Booth, Sumners and Town Park will also reopen for the summer, with new seating and upgraded filter systems. Two new shade canopies have been installed at Bush Fair.

Regular SEN quiet sessions will be introduced at Staple Tye Splash Park and the Town Park paddling pool, helping make the spaces more inclusive for all children.

All sites will benefit from an enhanced daily cleaning rota to keep them safe and ready for use. Recruitment of summer staff has started in time for the new season.

Commenting on the improvements in place for this year, Councillor Danielle Brown, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Culture and Community, said:

“We know how much families love our splash parks and paddling pools, so we’re making sure they’re better and that the splash parks will open earlier this year.

“You told us these spaces matter and we’ve listened. From new features and seating to extra cleaning, it’s all about making them even more enjoyable for everyone. Also look out for a summer programme of activities at the sites of the paddling pools and splash parks.

“I’m particularly proud we’re introducing dedicated SEN sessions, so every child can feel comfortable and included.

“Summer in Harlow is all about getting outdoors, having fun and making memories – and we’re ready. I can’t wait to see families making the most of it.”
