A Colchester opticians recently added a little extra magic instore – thanks to a dress up day where they only offered eye tests to children and young people under the age of 16.
The team at locally-owned-and-run Specsavers Colchester dressed up as a wide variety of Disney characters, princesses and superheroes, and all the children attending received a goody bag.
There was also an activity table, with stamps, stickers and colouring, and the dispensers also got some of the children to complete ‘what I loved about Specsavers today……’ messages, which were displayed in the front window.
And while the Long Wyre Street store wasn’t a completely adult free zone – parents and carers were required to accompany their children and young people as normal – the focus was on giving the youngsters a fun experience to encourage them to start early with regards to their eye health.
Over the course of the day, the team carried out 157 eye tests and dispensed 65 pairs of glasses.
Katie Bird, Retail Director at Specsavers Colchester, said: ‘We do this every year, and it always proves really popular. If children and young people start building good habits around eye health at an early age, they’re much more likely to keep getting their eyes checked as they get older, so it’s massively important.
‘Quite apart from the future benefits, we know that children can struggle at school if they are struggling to see clearly, and there can be eye conditions that require early intervention at all ages. We hope all our visitors, young and young at heart, enjoyed the day as much as we did.’
Specsavers Colchester is open seven days a week at 17/33 Long Wyre Street, Colchester, Essex, CO1 1LJ.
