Refurbishment Work to Begin on Prittlewell Station Footbridge

Greater Anglia is advising customers using Prittlewell station to allow extra time for their journeys, as essential refurbishment work is set to begin on the station footbridge later this month.

The footbridge will be closed from Saturday 15 November until spring 2026 while vital maintenance and repair works are carried out. During this time, passengers should use the alternative route via Station Approach and East Street to access Platform 2.

The footbridge will be removed over the weekend of 22 November to allow for refurbishment works to be completed off-site before being reinstalled next spring.

To enable this work, from Monday 17 November to Wednesday 26 November, a small section of the car park will be closed to allow crane access.

The entire car park will then be closed from Friday 21 November at 19:00 until Monday 24 November at 06:00 while the footbridge is removed.

The refurbishment will include replacing the bridge deck, refurbishing the existing staircases, and upgrading the lighting. These improvements will enhance safety, accessibility, and the overall appearance of the station, ensuring a safer and more welcoming environment for all customers.

Andrew Goodrum, Infrastructure & Major Projects Director at Greater Anglia, said:

“Investing in upgrades across our network demonstrates Greater Anglia’s ongoing commitment to providing excellent facilities and a safe, comfortable experience for our customers.

“The refurbishment of Prittlewell station footbridge will significantly improve safety and enhance the station environment. We would like to thank our customers and neighbours for their patience and understanding while this important work takes place.”
