Steven Blades is an English actor and former Royal Marines Commando, most recently seen as Engineer in the official launch live-action trailer for ‘Battlefield 6’. Known for his grounded intensity and physical realism, Steven brings a commanding presence to screen, drawing on years of real-world tactical experience. His upcoming work includes reprising his role as Bull in ‘The Devil’s Hour’ Season 3 and appearing as Commander Tully in ‘Mutiny’, an action film starring Jason Statham. Previous credits include ‘Sunray: Fallen Soldier’ and ‘One More Shot’.
Without giving away behind-the-scenes details, Steven describes the live-action trailer as a statement of tone and ambition — a production defined by authenticity and emotional power, echoing the discipline and focus he developed as a Royal Marines Commando. “Working on the ‘Battlefield 6’ official launch live-action trailer was one of the most physically demanding and rewarding shoots of my career,” says Steven. “Every scene felt immersive and cinematic. There’s a raw energy in the trailer that I think the Battlefield community will connect with immediately.”
Steven’s experience as a Royal Marines Commando brought a unique depth to his portrayal. He was able to move, hold weaponry and react in a way that felt authentic, not just to the Battlefield community, but to military veterans and action fans alike. “There’s a flow state language in how operators move. The way we clear rooms, communicate non-verbally and maintain calmness under pressure. I’m grateful to have the benefit of muscle memory when it comes to portraying a character of this nature.”
His ability to execute complex sequences without needing a stunt double added further authenticity to the trailer. Steven portrays Engineer — a skilled combatant focusing on both destroying enemy armour and repairing friendly equipment under pressure. He takes over as one of the key combat roles following the explosive opening sequence, anchoring much of the action across multiple terrains and scenarios. “The tank explosion sequence is the moment that defines Engineer for me,” said Steven. “It’s explosive, it’s chaotic and it captures the raw energy of the battlefield.”
‘Sunray: Fallen Soldier’ holds a special place in Steven’s heart. The film, which pays tribute to those who have served and the sacrifices made both on and off the battlefield, allowed him to represent the Royal Marines Commando ethos on screen — something he considers an honour. “I’m incredibly proud to have represented the Corps within ‘Sunray: Fallen Soldier’,” says Steven. “It wasn’t just a role for me; it was personal. That project reminded me of the brotherhood, the loss and the resilience that defines military life. Getting to share that experience on screen with my son, Jacob, made it even more special. It’s something I’ll carry with me forever. It’s a story that carries real emotional weight, and I’ll always be proud to have been a part of it.”
Steven also plays Bull in the psychological thriller ‘The Devil’s Hour’, created by Tom Moran for Prime Video. Being part of such a dark and intricately layered storyline allowed him to work within a slower-burning, emotionally tense world — a sharp contrast to the high-impact, adrenaline-fuelled live-action campaign of ‘Battlefield 6’.“I love playing characters who carry something beneath the surface. Bull is a man with demons, and being part of a show like ‘The Devil’s Hour’ lets you dive into those complexities.”
He began acting in 2013 and has since built a body of work that reflects his versatility and commitment to his craft. At 16, Steven joined Royal Marines Commando basic training and later gained operational experience in Afghanistan. After leaving the military, he specialised in Maritime Security — protecting commercial vessels and their crews from Somali pirates — and spent a decade in Close Protection, providing personal security to high-profile individuals before fully transitioning into film and television.
“‘Battlefield’ has such a loyal fanbase and long-standing legacy, so being part of this world, especially as Engineer, has been a real privilege. Coming from a military background, and now working as an actor, it felt like the perfect blend of experience and passion. It’s not often a project brings together character, action and scale in this way.”
