Source, a bold new force in EV charging backed by SSE and TotalEnergies, has unveiled new ultra-rapid hubs in Colchester and at the Chelmer Village Retail Park in Chelmsford.

The 12-bay hubs are the latest of 300 sites that Source plans to deliver by 2030. Source intends to reshape the EV charging experience, making it smarter, faster, and truly customer centric.

Both of the new hubs feature five 150kW chargers which, based on industry accepted charging session data, would allow users to ‘charge and go’ in around 15 minutes. There are also single 22kw chargers and two of the bays in each have been built to meet accessibility standards.

Drivers can use contactless payment on the terminals or download the new SourceConnect app which allows users to both locate available charge points and track their charging session in real time. New features under development include enhanced tools for fleet operators, booking options, and roaming access through Source’s growing partner network.

From cutting edge interfaces and contactless payments to round-the-clock customer service, Source hubs are built for simplicity, reliability, and speed. Powered by renewable energy and the latest market-leading infrastructure from SSE, along with unparalleled technology from TotalEnergies, means every charge is designed to be as clean as it is convenient.

Deepa Chandrasekaran, Managing Director at Source, said:

“The EV industry has reached a turning point, and we’re here to lead it into uncharted territories. At Source, we’re not just building charge points, we’re building confidence. Our ambition is to capture 20% of the UK & Ireland’s ultra-rapid market by delivering hubs that are easy to find, easy to use, and built for the future.”

Source selects its hub locations using the latest available data on user need and suitability and they are designed and built with data gathered from existing sites by the company’s unique Sentinel monitoring system.

The Colchester hub is located just off Tollgate Road, is ideal for drivers travelling along the A12 and is just a 5 minute walk from Tollgate Centre Shopping Park which has a McDonald’s and Costa on site.

The Chelmer Village hub, meanwhile, is located less than 10 minutes outside Chelmsford town centre on Chelmer Village Way off the A138. The site is surrounded by popular high-street stores and eateries and the busy retail park is home to multiple retailers including JD Sports, Currys and Costa.

Source is rising to meet a national challenge, with the UK Government’s Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate and Ireland’s target of 1 million EVs by 2030, infrastructure must evolve quickly and intelligently. Source’s community-focused hubs will support everyday drivers, busy fleet operators, and the decarbonisation goals of both nations.
