Popular Essex pub, The Hoy & Helmet pub, has reopened last weekend (23rd March) following an exciting six figure renovation.

Situated at the heart of Benfleet, the site closed in late February to undergo significant renovations and has now reopened following the completion of major works.

Inside, the pub has been given a new lease of life, completely modernising the interior with vibrant décor, contemporary lighting and fake foliage all adding to the fresh new-look. The pub has also been zoned into bar, restaurant, and sports, offering the perfect environment whether customers are visiting for a casual drink, a meal with the family or watching the match.

As we enter the spring/summer months, customers can now enjoy an upgraded pub garden, featuring a new heated, undercover seating area with mood lighting, perfect to enjoy as the weather warms up. The outdoor area also boasts a brand-new pizza oven, which is expected to be particularly popular amongst customers, offering alfresco dining with freshly made to order stone-baked pizzas.

The new outdoor bar will offer a range of popular refreshments for those wanting to enjoy some fresh air in the coming months, and sports fans don’t need to miss a second of the action thanks to the huge 3.5m outdoor TV coming soon, complete with all the best sports channels. Greene King Sport app users can also enjoy 10% off drinks on matchday.

The drinks’ menu has been given a revamp, with the introduction of Greene King favourites Flint Eye and Level Head, as well as popular lager Cruzcampo. For those who prefer something sweeter, a refreshing new range of cocktails is now available.

The pub will enjoy updated weekend opening hours to celebrate its exciting new brunch menu, available for guests Friday to Sunday from 10am-2pm. It will also retain the same popular food menu that the community knows and loves, including its classics meals offering 2 for £15.49.

What’s more, the whole family is invited, as parents can bring their little ones along with the pub welcoming children to try out the yummy kids’ menu, available on the ground floor only.

The refurbishment has created many jobs in the local community, with The Hoy & Helmet team adding 15 new members of staff due to the renovations, for which recruitment is now complete. The pub also supports the local community through its proud sponsorship of local football team South Benfleet FC.

Located near East Haven Creek, a popular dog walking spot, walkers in the area are more than welcome to bring dogs into the pub, with four-legged friends permitted throughout.

The pub hosts a regular programme of weekly events, with Monday quiz nights, seniors’ bingo on Wednesday, and monthly live music events. Popular monthly event boozy bingo will also be making its return.

The Benfleet community has also recently voted for its ‘Local Hero’, which was been decided as Marion Brocklebank who works tirelessly to support the local homeless community. Marion attended the pub’s official VIP opening night on 23rd March.

Gill Harvey, General Manager of The Hoy & Helmet, said: “Our team at The Hoy & Helmet has worked so hard behind the scenes during the renovation period and is excited to welcome back the Benfleet community, to showcase the fantastic renovations.

“We are proud that The Hoy & Helmet pub is a focal point for the community, and we can’t wait to see all our customers, both old and new, back enjoying a drink and a bite to eat.

“We’re confident that customers will love our new and improved features, especially the new pizza oven, outdoor bar and the fully landscaped beer garden, which we know will see a lot of use as we head into the warmer summer months!”

The Hoy & Helmet reopened on 23rd March and is located on 24-32 High Street, Benfleet, Essex
