The impressive riverside homes at Lea Wharf in Hertford have been awarded a coveted Quality Recognition Award in appreciation of their design excellence, quality workmanship and outstanding site management. Delivered by Chase New Homes, Lea Wharf is home to 98 one- and two-bedroom high-specification apartments with a superb roof terrace that enjoys views across the rooftops of Hertford town. In addition to winning the Quality Recognition Award, the development has been entered into the finals for a national Excellence Award.

The award scheme is operated by Premier Guarantee, a national company that provides building control and warranty services to developers and contractors. QRAs focus on design, quality and delivery during the production phase of a development, recognising a few standout schemes each month. Lea Wharf and the other monthly winners will now be eligible for Premier Guarantee’s annual Excellence Awards, taking place in spring 2024.

Gary Barton, Managing Director of Chase New Homes, commented: “We are delighted to achieve this important recognition of the quality craftsmanship and delivery at Lea Wharf. From the thoughtful design through to the high-spec finishing touches in each home, every element of the building has been created with quality and the residents’ experience at the forefront of each decision.”

Lea Wharf’s apartments elegantly line the waterside, blending into the historic fabric of the town. The prized riverside location is reflected in the London wharf style of the design, ensuring the properties speak to the traditional wharf-side setting. This is clearly visible in the light brick façade interjected with black crittal arched windows and recessed balconies. There is also a nod to historic wharf features such as black dock doors and winches poised high on the side of the buildings and a metal ‘sky bridge’ that spans the distance between blocks. The black rivetted metal panelling, solid black pillars and thick glazing bars recessed into the façade, which provide shadow and depth across the elevations, all contribute to an impressive sense of a busy, vibrant wharf-side development.

Internally, the warehouse-inspired theme continues, with a well-appointed layout and specification to the apartments. The floor to ceiling, black-framed crittal-effect window to the open plan lounge delivers an impressive measure of space, light and artistic precision. Kitchens have a concrete effect finish, blending an industrial feel with the pristine look provided by energy-efficient, integrated Siemens appliances, handle-less doors, bright quartz worktops and splashbacks and beautifully contrasting matt black mixer taps. This contrast continues into the elegantly tiled bathrooms, with matt black Hansgrohe fixtures and fittings offset against contemporary white sanitaryware.

In addition to the spacious roof terrace, Lea Wharf residents also benefit from a concierge service. There are lifts to all floors, while individual homes have designer fitted kitchens with German appliances, contemporary flooring, fully fitted bathrooms and private balconies to select apartments.

Located in Hertford town centre, adjacent to the River Lea, the properties provide easy access to many local shops, bars and restaurants that range from light-filled brasseries to intriguing basement taverns. For travelling further afield, the A414 is two minutes away by car and the M25 is a 26-minute drive. Those on public transport can get to Tottenham Hale by train from Hertford East station in 37 minutes and to London Liverpool Street in 51. From Hertford North station, Finsbury Park is a 38-minute journey and Kings Cross is a 59-minute one.

It’s not just commuters who are well served by Lea Wharf. Families with children will find two schools with an Ofsted rating of ‘Outstanding’ within one mile of the development, including a primary school for younger children aged 2-11 and an ‘all through’ school for pupils aged 4-18. There are also two Good-rated schools within a mile radius – a mixed primary and a boys’ secondary with a mixed sixth form.

Lea Wharf offers homes to rent and to buy, with a deposit of just 5% through Deposit Unlock and a range of incentives such as a mortgage subsidy available through Chase New Homes.
