Essex County Council boosts its digital care offering ahead of winter

Cared-for residents in West Essex are set to benefit from a new partnership with Sentai, an Alexa-integrated smart voice companion, ahead of the cold winter months.

In a pioneering approach to healthcare, individuals will have access to Sentai, a revolutionary voice-enabled virtual care solution, offering a wide range of benefits, including timely reminders, AI-powered conversations, and activity monitoring for individuals receiving care.

The service is being offered by Essex County Council’s reablement programme. It will support a safe and effective hospital discharge for participants, while providing families and carers with reassurance about the individual’s wellbeing and insight into their independence. It will also identify any areas where they may require further support.
The pilot program is committed to testing and learning the effectiveness of new technologies to continue to offer Essex residents an innovative, person-centred and evolving care technology solution. Currently, the average length of stay in reablement for the West is 21 days. The rollout will foster simplicity and improve overall care by providing enhanced visibility and insights. In doing so, it’s poised to play a pivotal role in preventing future ill health and reducing the need for individuals to return to hospitals.

As winter looms, the incorporation of digital care will provide a significant boost to services. Councillor John Spence, Cabinet Member for Health, Adult Social Care and ICS Integration at Essex County Council said: “In a time where we face increasing healthcare challenges, Sentai’s digital care offering is a remarkable addition that extends the reach of our care services and provides a lifeline for those in need. Essex County Council is dedicated to delivering innovative solutions to meet the needs of our residents. We are excited to partner with Sentai to introduce this revolutionary digital care system in West Essex.”

Phil Marshman, the founder of Sentai adds: “At Sentai, we’re proud to be at the forefront of transforming health and social care with our innovative digital care solution. The introduction of Sentai in West Essex is a significant step towards improving the lives of those in need of care and the dedicated professionals who provide it. Our mission is to empower individuals, enhance their wellbeing, and bring peace of mind to families.”

The pilot is available to residents from the 20th November, and will be part of the reablement service offer for those coming out of hospital.
