Mobility equipment retailer CareCo, thanks Braintree District Council for its support after a fire severely damaged and closed its headquarters and warehouse last month.

The fire which started in the area storing used lithium batteries on Sunday, 17 September caused extensive smoke damage to the premises situated just off the A131 in Great Notley, near Braintree.

Braintree District Council, who manage The Plaza enterprise and innovation centre at the Horizon 120 business park, responded with speed allowing CareCo to immediately make use of its conference facilities and work spaces in order to serve customers and continue with the operation of its business.

John Pryor, Managing Director at CareCo (UK) Ltd, said: “The events of that day were devastating and extremely emotional for members of our team. Despite this, we knew that we needed to step-up and focus on our journey back without delay. The way the team at The Plaza reacted to our needs was incredible and we will never forget that support.”

Cllr Kevin Bowers, Cabinet Member for Resources and Performance at Braintree District Council, said: “We were more than happy to support and help a local business in their hour of need, especially after such terrible circumstances. With our flexible workspaces and conferences facilities, we were able to provide them with considerable comfort at the Plaza over what must have been a very testing time.”

CareCo has since found alternative accommodation which better suits their longer term needs while work continues on repairing the fire damaged offices and warehouse.
