Braintree District Council has requested expressions of interests for funding for green spaces projects in local communities.

Community and voluntary groups are invited to share their vision of a community green space in their local area and apply for funding to make the project a reality.

The Braintree District Council Community Garden and Open Spaces Fund offers funding of up to £3,500 and the initial deadline to express an interest is 18th August 2023, with the final application to be submitted by 15th September 2023. The funding has been made possible through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), which is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda and aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK, investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.

Applications for this grant are now open and further details about the Community Gardens and Open Spaces funding, including the application form can be found here: https://www.braintree.gov.uk/community/community-gardens. Those who wish to express their initial interest, should email [email protected] by 5pm on 18th August 2023.
Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Transformation, the Environment and Customer Services, and Deputy Leader at Braintree District Council said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for all those who wish to create an inspiring green space in their neighbourhood which will benefit everyone in their local community.

“Community gardens and green spaces bring people together and contribute to the general community feel of neighbourhoods. They also play a vital role contributing to environmental sustainability and promote biodiversity, whilst providing an opportunity to incorporate sustainable practices such as rainwater harvesting or composting.

“We look forward to receiving many interesting applications over the coming weeks and we anticipate the unveiling of many community gardens in the future.”
