Ofgem warns National Grid to fix unaccaptable delays or face ‘tough reforms’

Johnathan Brearley, the Chief Executive at Ofgem, has warned the National Grid that they must fix the ‘unacceptable’ delays in connecting up solar farms and wind turbines or face losing its infrastructure planning powers.

The National Grid, the private monopoly owning and operating the main transmission network, will have two years to fix the delays or face tough reforms as the energy watchdog states the delays are threatening the nation’s Net Zero goals.

As governments tighten their Net Zero strategies, SaveMoneyCutCarbon (SMCC) – the UK’s leading sustainability corporate consultants – are setting out the varied ways that businesses can follow suit in their net zero goals while saving money, reducing costs and increasing employee retention through sustainable practice.

Having newly launched an industry-first manifesto for businesses, introducing a six-step plan to achieve lower energy bills and deliver tangible results, as well as a 12-month programme called EcoWise, aimed at encouraging staff to learn and employ practical changes in their home and workplace, the money-saving platform offers crucial relief to businesses in a perilous position.
