Dunmow Art Group will hold its inaugural Open Studios weekend later this month with local artists and makers opening their doors for the public to explore.

The Dunmow Art Group Open Studios event will take place on the weekend of 20th and 21st May (from 10am until 4pm) with 11 local artists dusting off their overalls, hanging their artwork and showing their creative processes within their homes.

Open Studios offers the public a chance to visit artists’ working studios to buy original art directly from artists in an informal setting. But more importantly, it’s a chance to go behind the scenes, meet the artist and find out about their process.

The 11 artists taking part in the inaugural Dunmow Art Group Open Studios are: Christian Runacres, Rosamond Ulph, Audrey Bowling, Tom Deakins, Mandy Whittick, Liz Parker, Debbie Goodman, Roger Lawrence, Louise Man, Jo Mayo and John Farrow.

The artworks range from paintings in oils, acrylics and watercolours, to mixed-media collage, limited edition Giclee prints, soft furnishings and ceramics.

There are expressive landscapes, fine-detailed birds, floral watercolour lampshades, tea towels, cushions and napkins, loose watercolour animals, acrylic floral still life, calligraphic maps of English fieldnames and mixed-media collages with ‘found’ objects, such as wire and old washers.

Artists’ studio locations are spread out across the local area with artists in Great Dunmow, Gallows Green, Felsted, Bardfield End Green, Blackmore End and Barnston.

Jo Mayo, Open Studios Organiser said: “This is a fantastic way for local artists to show their work and for the public to meet the artists and find out more about them and their creative process. We are delighted so many local artists have decided to get involved for what promises to be a fun, inaugural Open Studios event.”

Refreshments will be available at several of the individual studios as the artists celebrate the opening weekend and in some studios there will be the opportunity to sign up to a workshop or two.
