PRIME Minister Rishi Sunak has failed to deliver on his promises to restore integrity to government, according to a former adviser to the Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

Leon Emirali told GB News: “Well, he’s had an interesting first 100 days in one respect, he’s done what he said he was going to do, which is essentially stabilise the ship, get the economy back on track after the short term shock of Liz Truss mini budget.

“We’ve seen that the long term prospects of the UK don’t look quite as promising but then on the other hand, he has failed because he said on the steps of Downing Street he would bring back professionalism, integrity, accountability.

“Yet we’ve seen scandal after scandal over these 100 days.”

Commenting during Breakfast with Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster, he said: “He’s an experienced politician. Let’s not forget, he was Chancellor for one of the most unprecedented times in the country during the pandemic, so he knows this stuff.

“It does seem that there are still elementary mistakes being made with his leadership, whether it’s not looking decisive enough, not taking action quickly enough.

“I think that’s one of his big problems, the weakness optics that are surrounding him.”

Asked about potential comebacks by former prime ministers, he said: “It’s not helpful to have your former prime minister’s making noises and I don’t think Liz truss or Boris Johnson are going to go away quietly.

“I find it strange there’s anyone who wants to see a Liz Truss comeback other than Liz Truss, because I’m not sure where that clamour is coming from.

“Clearly, she still thinks she has a role to play in public life and wants to make some noise about this growth coalition we heard about when she was Prime Minister.”

On the charges of bullying against Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab, he said: “We’ve been talking about the Dominic Raab bullying allegations for months now.

“There is a growing sense that we are going to find a conclusion to one way or another fairly soon.

“There are understandings in Westminster and Whitehall that Dominic Rob is a tough boss, but bullying is very hard to prove and I think that’s why this is such a messy sort of case because we can’t categorically prove what is a bully and what isn’t a bully.

“I think that there is an understanding that eventually we’re going to find a conclusion to that.”
