Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock, has welcomed the new ‘Help to Grow: Management Essentials’ free online course which was published by the Government this week to help SMEs who are just starting out.

Almost every business in the country is a small or medium-sized business (99.9%). SMEs support 16.7 million jobs across the UK and account for £2.4 trillion of the UK’s annual turnover. Hence, it is vital that SMEs are both supported and helped to grow.

This week, the Government launched its latest offer to support SMEs, ‘Help to Grow: Management Essentials’ which is a free online course available to any SME leader or senior manager making strategic decisions. This is particularly relevant for micro-businesses, people who feel they are not yet ready to embark on the full ‘Help to Grow: Management Course’, and those wanting a quick refresher of key management concepts.

Stephen Metcalfe said: “As a former SME owner, I appreciate the value of helpful advice and guidance when you are running a business. So, I would encourage any SME in Basildon and Thurrock to take a look at this new ‘Help to Grow’ initiative.

In the latest follow-up survey, 69% of participants in the initiative said that they had implemented changes in their business and 58% said that sales had increased. The programme has already supported 7,700 business owners and managers by providing important guidance and know-how.”
