In the UK, during the summer months, interest around everything ‘tennis’ skyrockets. Analysing Google search volumes, interest in the search term ‘tennis’ increases around 194% when comparing the same search in winter. A similar trend is found with the search term ‘tennis courts’, with summer months experiencing a 100% increase in volume when comparing to springs figures.

Fuelled by the nice weather or simply heightened inspiration from Wimbledon, people across the UK catch tennis fever every year, dusting off their old rackets and getting out on the courts. However, are some cities better than others for tennis fans..?

Well, a new report from Gambling.com reveals which UK cities are best for tennis lovers. Through the utilisation of an index composing of several key metrics such as, average court costs and availabilities, the report ranks each city from best to worst.

Some Surprising Cities Make the Top 10

Sitting in the number one spot on the index is the home of Wimbledon, London… just (51.79). Due to its size, it has over 100 tennis facilities within a five-mile radius of the centre and over 600 LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) approved courts, which drastically bumps it up the rankings.

However, it only just scrapes top spot due to its poor scoring for facilities and courts based off the local population. In fact, when comparing the number of tennis facilities to population figures, London has the worse score of any city in the UK – behind the likes of Stoke-on-Trent who appear second bottom.

Taking the 2nd and 3rd spots on the ranking are two smaller cities, Newport (49.05) and Perth (46.94). Along with both cities having some of the lowest court rental fees across the UK (see below table), they rank 1st and 2nd for number of tennis courts when comparing to population sizes.
