Max’s Sandwich Shop is giving away 100 FREE Coronation Chicken Sandwiches, this Sunday

To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the UK’s favourite mayonnaise, Hellmann’s, is joining forces with the King of Sandwiches himself, Max Halley, to develop a Coronation Chicken Sandwich – fit for a Queen!

The original coronation chicken recipe was created for the Queen’s Coronation in 1953 and listed on the banquet’s menu as the “Poulet Reine Elizabeth”. The recipe was developed by chefs from Le Cordon Bleu and the ingredients used were considered remarkable at the time, with many only just becoming available as the country remained under the restrictions of post-war rationing.

70 years later, Max Halley and Hellmann’s have come together to give this traditional recipe the royal treatment using Hellmann’s Real Mayo to create a creamy, coronation sauce, combining it with flavours from around the world including punchy pickled onions, sweet mango chutney and crunchy Bombay mix, topped and bottomed with a soft, spongy focaccia.

What’s more, while Queen Liz is known to cut the crusts off her sandwiches, this butty uses a naturally crustless bread – Max’s home-baked focaccia – to ensure not a single crumb goes to waste. All the while, making sure it meets One’s royal sarnie standards and pairs perfectly with the Queen’s favourite Earl Grey tea.

If you want a bite of the regal sandwich, Hellmann’s and Max will be giving away 100 of the limited-edition Coronation chicken sandwiches from Max’s sandwich shop in Finsbury Park, on a first-come-first-served basis, between 11 am – 3pm on Sunday 5thJune.

“King of Sandwiches” Max Halley, Owner of Max’s Sandwich Shop, said; “Hellmann’s is hands down my favourite mayonnaise and the only one we use at the Sandwich Shop. So, who better to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee with, than Hellmann’s!

Inspired by the royally famous flavour of Coronation chicken and packed full of delicious goodies, this is a sandwich for the whole nation. Please join us this Jubilee and raise a sandwich to old Queenie!”

Rachel Chambers, Marketing Manager at Hellmann’s, added: “We know that everyone across the country is going to be celebrating the Queen’s jubilee with street parties, picnics and get-togethers and who better to work with on creating a sandwich fit for the queen, than the king of sandwiches himself! Full of tasty ingredients, including Hellmann’s real mayonnaise and a great way to use up leftovers, we hope to see this sarnie on plates across the nation this bank holiday weekend! If you can’t make it to Max’s Sandwich Shop on the 5th June – get creative at home using the recipe instead.”

So, this weekend, celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee with Hellmann’s and Max’s recipe for a sarnie fit for a queen! And for those looking for an (even quicker) Coronation Chicken fix, this weekend and beyond, try Hellmann’s new saucy flavour – Hellmann’s Coronation Mayo, available in Iceland and Morrisons. A modern squeeze on the traditional recipe, enjoy in sarnies, or as a dip.
