One of the region’s most exciting sporting events returns to Essex this May as Bishop’s Stortford plays host to the Courtauld Polo Trophy.

On Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May polo teams from across the East of England will come together at the Silver Leys Polo Club in Bishop’s Stortford for a weekend of high octane matches, entertainment, food and family fun. Everyone is invited, whether you are a polo enthusiast or a complete novice wanting to learn more about the sport. For those completely new to the game, BBC Radio 5’s Johnny Barron will be on hand to commentate on the matches, keeping everyone up to speed with the action.

Gates open at 11am on both dates and tickets are £10 on the gate, with children under 8 admitted free. VIP packages available in advance from www.courtauldpolotrophy.com.

Schools from across Essex have been invited to attend the tournament to try playing polo for the first time, and visitors to the event will also be able to try for themselves, with expert tuition provided by some of the country’s top polo players.

The weekend will cumulate in some must see matches between Felsted Seniors and Bishop Stortford Seniors, and Felsted School and Cambridge University.

Former England Player and Felsted Senior Player, Alex Rayner, says:

“Polo has a bit of a reputation as an elitist sport but that’s really not the case. It’s growing in popularity with more people from a whole range of background taking up the game. The Courtauld Trophy weekend is the perfect opportunity for people to sample the sport in a friendly, welcoming environment.

“Whether you want to try polo yourself or just want to come along and watch some fantastic matches, everyone is welcome. The weekend is a family friendly event, bring a picnic and soak up the fantastic atmosphere that comes with a polo tournament such as this.”
