Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) software developer and provider, spark, has been announced as a silver finalist in the prestigious Practical Pre-School Awards 2016.

The Colchester based company, founded by Catherine Lyon, provides Ofsted acknowledged curriculum based software encompassing the entire learning journey for children aged up to eight years. spark is built not only for the nursery environment, but also as a fundamental tool for parents to track their child’s development at home; encouraging that all-important communication between parents and nursery staff which is key to a child’s education. EYFS providers have found the software invaluable for organising staff time, systematising procedures and creating operational efficiency savings.

Catherine says: “The Practical Pre-School Awards are considered to be an essential product guide for everyone working with young children, so it is a great honour and another boost for our company to be a finalist.”

The testimonials from the testers, used in the judging process, had this to say about spark: “Our staff love sparkPRO, it has made planning, next steps and writing up observations for each child so much easier and less time consuming, allowing more time to sit and have quality time with the children. The staff at sparkPRO are always on the other end of the phone if there are any issues. The software package has proved a very positive experience.”

“When I see comments like that, I know we are meeting our objectives,” says Catherine. “spark is developed incorporating many years of nursery management experience and encompassing the needs of children as well as EYFS providers. If staff can spend more time interacting with the children and less time writing assessments and planning, we know we are getting it right.”
