Greater Anglia is advising passengers to check before they travel on Sunday 19 October, as engineering work will significantly impact journeys to and from Stansted Airport.

There will be no direct train services between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport on this date, and customers are advised to consider using alternative transport to and from the airport.

Journeys to/from the airport by train can be made via Cambridge, with Stansted Express tickets accepted on Great Northern services between London King’s Cross and Cambridge, and Cambridge to Stansted Airport. The journey time using this route will take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Some very early and late-night journeys between London and Stansted will not be available as Great Northern services start later and finish earlier than Stansted Express services. Customers should check before they travel and plan ahead.

Buses will also replace trains between Hertford East and Waltham Cross. Both the Greater Anglia and the council-operated car parks at Waltham Cross will be shut on 19 October.

Two trains an hour will run between London Liverpool Street and Waltham Cross with limited capacity, and a very restricted replacement bus service will operate between Waltham Cross and Stansted Airport. The total journey time via this route will be approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes. Passengers are advised to consider alternative options.

Trains will continue to operate between Cambridge North and Stansted Airport.

Football supporters looking to travel to Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday 19 October at 14.00, are advised to travel to Tottenham Hale and then walk to the stadium. London Overground trains will run from Enfield Town every 15 minutes.

Martin Beable, Greater Anglia Managing Director, said:

“We are unable to operate direct trains between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport on Sunday 19 October while Network Rail carries out essential engineering work.

“Customers are advised to plan ahead, allow more time for their journey and check before they travel. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

Simon Milburn, infrastructure director at Network Rail Anglia, said:

“Our vital engineering works on Sunday 19 October include track maintenance and structures examination between Broxbourne and Cheshunt junctions, while near Stansted Airport our teams will be carrying out critical overhead line maintenance.

“We apologise for any disruption, but we’ll be working flat-out all day to help keep everyone’s journeys safe and reliable on this part of the network.”
