The Truth about CBD from a family doctor

Chances are you’ve heard about  CBD, a once unknown compound, elusive for some and surrounded with confusion, now commonplace and stocked in most high street health stores. The CBD industry  continues to thrive and remain as one of the top wellness trends in 2020, statistics show that its popularity won’t be diminishing anytime soon. So what’s all the fuss about? and who has the best CBD in the UK? We spoke to Dr. Harrison Weisinger (B.Sc., M.Sc., MB.BS, Ph.D. Family GP and founder of his own brand of CBD) to dig a little deeper.

So what is CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol and is a product that’s derived from the cannabis plant, (which is where all the controversy comes from!). CBD alone will not get you high Unlike its sister component THC.

Does CBD really live up to the hype, or is this  just another fad?

The hype comes from a fast growing awareness  around its numerous health benefits with little to no nasty side effects. According to Dr. Harrison Weisinger (B.Sc., M.Sc., MB.BS, Ph.D. Family GP and founder of his own brand of CBD) thinks we’re only scratching the surface of the science behind it …

“If you consider how long we’ve legally been able to research and share studies about CBD, it makes sense that there’s not much out there in terms of solid results, though there are now dozens of positive research publications appearing each month.

The customer reviews from my own CBD company speaks volumes, anecdotally  people around the world are experiencing incredible benefits. It’s only a matter of time before the studies and science catch up with the hype.”

Why do people take CBD?

Promising early studies have shown that CBD may be helpful for people suffering with sleep disorders, some people  take it for pain relief, others for anxiety or depression. It seems CBD is great for pretty much everything, which does raise the question, how? How can something be so good for so many things?

We’re still in the process of fully understanding  the science behind how CBD works in different ways for different people  but what is known for sure  is that it acts on the central nervous system by targeting receptors in the so-called endocannabinoid system (ECS).

All humans and mammals have an endocannabinoid system (ECS) that studies now suggest is activated by taking CBD, helping it to function normally. The ECS is a group of receptors in the brain, central nervous system, organs, glands and immune cells. It’s believed to play a big part in making sure your entire body is working properly.

According to neuroscientist and cannabis expert, Michele Ross,

“because this [ECS] system regulates everything—down to your dopamine levels—if it isn’t working, nothing is working. If you don’t know why you feel run-down all the time, despite feeling healthy and exercising, you might have an endocannabinoid deficiency,” he says.

How does CBD help with pain?

The vast amount of research suggesting the incredible benefits of CBD look at a wide range of areas, including CBD oil for pain relief and as an anti-inflammatory.

According to a recent systematic review2 on the medical uses of cannabinoids, there was moderate-quality evidence to support the use of cannabinoids for chronic pain.  As for CBD and hemp oils’ potential for use in the treatment of chronic pain, in the most recent review on the topic in 2018, Donvito et al3 wrote that

an overwhelming body of convincing preclinical evidence indicates that cannabinoids produce antinociceptive (blocks pain receptors) effects in inflammatory and neuropathic rodent pain models.” Dr. Harrison Weisinger

What’s the best CBD oil UK?

When shopping for CBD ”Be wary!” Dr. Weisinger warns. ”There are many companies out there who cut corners and use toxic extraction methods, there are also many who claim that their product contains more CBD than it actually does, do your research and look for reviews online. Truth Naturals use Trustpilot so you can read unedited reviews from real customers. Our 1000mg CBD  tincture was recently voted number 1 in the uk by the Telegraph.”

Many people complain about the price of organic CBD but the truth is, the process is laborious and complex. To do it right it takes time and skill so if you find a CBD brand where the price is too good to be true, it usually is!

Is CBD safe?

”Absolutely!” says Dr. Harry “High quality CBD like ours is considered a very safe and natural supplement. and we  go the extra mile. We  don’t muck around when it comes to ,quality, and transparency at all times. One of the main reasons that we called ourselves Truth!

Our products are thoroughly lab tested so that we can guarantee our CBD oil is pure – full of all the beneficial phytocannabinoids, minerals, fatty acids and vitamins you need; without the use of any chemicals, pesticides or heavy metals whatsoever.”

So the big question is, If CBD is so effective then why aren’t all doctors prescribing it to their patients?

“Doctors follow clinical guidelines.  Particularly in the treatment of common presentations like anxiety, sleep disorders and pain, doctors operate according to the most current clinical guidelines.  Guidelines are, by and large, conservative in nature – and as such avoid novel treatments until they are tried and tested. Doctors that operate outside of clinical guidelines are putting themselves at risk.  At this point, CBD does not appear in any clinical guidelines though in all likelihood, it is just a matter of time” – Dr. Harry
