Broxbourne cricketers have been urged to keep their eye on the ball and prioritise their vision as part of a new partnership with an independent optician.

As Broxbourne Cricket Club’s new sponsors, E&G Opticians’ logo now features on the team’s kit, and the practice will provide players with all their sports eyewear and eye examinations. Members of the club will also receive a 20% discount on all dispenses at E&G Opticians.

The Station Road practice has been at the heart of the local community since 1987, providing high standards of clinical excellence to patients. The partnership underlines the practice’s commitment to Broxbourne while encouraging vision requirements to be prioritised within sport.

Director at E&G Opticians, Shabnam Fazl, said: “We’re delighted to be able to contribute towards the club’s goals. We’re hopeful that our involvement will encourage more athletes to consider the vision element of their sport, whether it’s ensuring their eyes are sufficiently protected or staying at the top of their game with crystal-clear vision.

“The entire team at E&G Opticians has strong connections to the local community and we carry a real sense of pride watching the teams play. We’ll all be cheering them on!”

Broxbourne Cricket Club was established in 1848, serving as an inclusive and welcoming community within Broxbourne that aims to support the development of young players, many of whom have risen through the ranks over the years.

The club runs five adult men’s teams with their 1st XI competing at the top end of the Championship, alongside a Ladies team in the Herts Premier League, and boys and girls Academy age-group teams from U9 up to U17. The club is housed by Broxbourne Sports Club, which also hosts a range of sports including hockey, squash, tennis, padel and running.

Gordon Picker, Chair of Broxbourne Cricket Club, added: “I hope that this is a mutually beneficial partnership, raising awareness of the need for good eye (and hearing) health and proper diagnosis and treatment of any issues.

“The support we receive allows us to keep improving and plan with the knowledge that it is there for the foreseeable future.

“We’re so grateful for the enthusiastic support we’ve had so far from Shabnam and her team, and I know she values the welcome she has had at the club.”
