A project to upgrade one of the oldest sections of gas pipeline in Lower Naseing, Waltham Abbey, starts on Monday 16 June.
The planned activity will involve the decommissioning of the current metallic gas pipes – which measure 7km and were originally installed over 100 years ago – and installing tough new pipes which will last for decades, future proofing the local network.
The work is part of a £90m investment this year, which will see more than 300km of gas pipes upgraded across the East of England.
Following consultation with Essex Highways, Cadent has agreed to carry out this essential work between Monday 16 June and Thursday 30 April 2026.
The work – which will be carried out in phases – takes place in Old Nazeing Road, Nazeing Road, Nazeingbury Pararde, North Street, Maplecroft Lane, Pecks Hill, St Leonards Road, Tasfield Ave, Laundry Lane, Arrow Yard, Nursery Road, Paynes Lane, Langley Green, and Lake Road.
Cadent Project Manager, Gavin Stuart said: “We have a responsibility to make sure every property that uses gas has access to it 24/7, 365 days a year and these essential works will mean that we continue to deliver on that promise.
“The project taking place is a large one, but a lot of work has taken place with the local authorities to create a plan that keeps traffic flowing and maintains access for local businesses and residents.
“We will be in regular contact with the Highways Authority to keep them updated on our work which we will always aim to complete as quickly and as safely as we can.”
