THE death of Strictly Come Dancing star Robin Windsor has been described as “devastating news” by a showbiz reporter Stephanie Takyi, who said she spoke to him recently.

She told GB News: “This is just devastating news, not only to the Strictly family but to the creative industry in general.

“I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing Robin Windsor many times over the years, and he not only taught us to illuminate the dance floor when he was on Strictly, he was equally as illuminating in life.

“I caught up with him just three months ago. So this is quite a shock for me because when I did catch up with him last, as ever, he was still passionate about dancing and he seemed that he was just equally as passionate about life.”

In a discussion during Breakfast with Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster, she added: “I really do feel like dancing really did save him because he was very open about his battles with depression.

“Some people would have depression for a couple of days, but he said depression used to hit him for at least a couple of weeks and dancing and moving was really the thing that gave him joy, and to watch him dance on Strictly was a joy to many viewers who loved that show.”

“He was on Strictly for a good part of four years and unfortunately that came to an end when he slipped a disc and he was paralysed for days and he was forced to pull out the series.

“If it wasn’t for that, the physicality problems that he had, I still think he would be on the show today because he really did bring out the best of his partners. You never really had any controversy about Robin Windsor, he was just a lovely and professional man, which is what we’ve seen in the tributes today.”

Eamonn also paid tribute and revealed that he and his wife Ruth danced with Robin at a charity event at Old Trafford stadium.

He said: “What energy, but this is sad…we remember him fondly.”
