Over 900 Alzheimer’s Society fundraisers turned Chelmsford blue on Sunday 1st October, 2023 at the charity’s Memory Walk. The walk has already raised over £111,000 with more funds expected to come in over the coming weeks.

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Nick Collier – AKA Ella Vaday cut the ribbon at the start of the walk with his mum Donna.

For Nick Collier AKA Ella Vaday, the event was a chance to reflect on family and health with his mum Donna, who has lived through two cancer diagnoses, walking alongside him.

Speaking at the finish line, Nick discussed his personal connection to the cause, saying:

“It was incredible to swap my stilettoes for trainers today at Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walk in Chelmsford! Having mum with me was amazing, as we walked together to celebrate my lovely nan, who is living with Alzheimer’s.

“My nan has always been such an important and supportive figure in my life, so watching her decline has been really hard on the whole family.

“After her diagnosis, I knew I wanted to help support Alzheimer’s Society. Funds raised from events like Memory Walk help provide vital research and support services that are so crucial to the 900,000 people living with dementia in the UK.”

Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer, with one in three people born in the UK today going on to develop the condition in their lifetime.

Alzheimer’s Society is vowing to help stop the devastation caused by dementia, with money raised from the family-friendly sponsored walks going towards funding crucial research and supporting people living with dementia through some of the hardest and most frightening times.
