FORMER NATIONAL SECURITY CHIEF ON ESCAPED PRISONER SCANDAL

A CRIME and security expert says it is highly surprising the escaped prisoner Daniel Khalife was ever given a job in a kitchen.

Chris Phillips, the former head of the UK National Counter Terrorism Security Office, told GB News: “You don’t expect a prisoner to escape from Wandsworth or anywhere else. But listen, there’s more to this. I mean, he was actually given a job which allowed him to play with knives and carry knives, and actually a degree of freedom. I mean, he hasn’t been convicted yet, but this is highly unusual for a terrorist suspect. I would suggest.

“The people that were doing the risk assessments probably almost certainly didn’t think that he was going to make any effort to escape. If they did, they wouldn’t have put him in that role.

“That’s the sort of role that you get, usually when you’ve been in prison and you’re waiting for release. I mean, we have to bear in mind that he’s not been convicted of anything yet. So, until we know the full details of the court case, and that, of course, may never happen, then we won’t really know whether the decisions taken were reasonable or not. That’s what the inquiry is for, but you know, this is such a big waste of time for policing.”
