Getting into a new sport is no small feat and will take determination and regular disappointment when your team or favourite sportsperson happens to lose.

However, in return, you’ll discover a new passion that may take over your life and the high you feel from your team winning is a feeling like no other. Before delving into how to get into sports, the first step is to choose the one you’ll be following. Here are some examples that you may choose:

In this article, we’ll be using football as an example of how you can get into the sport as it’s the most watched around the world with roughly 5 billion fans, but the same principles can be applied to any sport. Read on to find out how to get into sports properly.

Pick a team

Your sports team will become your pride and joy, so picking one you’ll fall in love with is a must. Most people choose their team based on where they live in the country or who their parents support.

Choosing a team that you can support with friends or loved ones is a great idea as you’ll be able to talk about them with each other. Plus, when your team wins, nothing beats celebrating with your mates.

Start watching it

To get into it, you have to witness it and understand what it’s all about. The best way to do this is to watch it live. There are many rules to try to understand too – even though they change all the time and are very often scrutinised.

We recommend heading to the pub on a Saturday to catch a match. You’ll then feel the atmosphere there and be able to celebrate among fellow fans who could turn out to be new friends in the making.

Go to a game

If you thought the atmosphere in the pub was good, just wait until you go to a game live. Take Anfield for example. This is home to Liverpool Football Club and the atmosphere is often unmatched. Head there for a game and grab a shirt of your favourite player to celebrate the day

Once that first goal goes in, you’ll be fully hooked and ready to go back again and again, just to feel the emotion of a goal going in once more.

Get your mates involved

As we mentioned earlier, being able to celebrate wins with your friends is a feeling unmatched. If you have any friends that also want to get involved then take them along to watch a game too. They’re sure to fall in love with the sport as you did and it will be a great bonding experience for you too.
