In honour of their longstanding commitment to watch-making, and in celebration of 2023 marking their 110th anniversary, Seiko Watches are delighted to introduce the Seiko Presage Takumi – ‘The Laurel’ Anniversary Edition. This enamel timepiece commemorates the anniversary and reinvents Japan’s very first wrist watch, created by the brand in 1913, the ‘Laurel’.

The Laurel wristwatch is said to have been very complex to produce as the tools of the time were not yet sophisticated enough to work on a mechanism smaller than a pocket watch. Due to this Seiko were only able to produce a few dozen ‘Laurels’ each day. The design elements replicate those of this first wristwatch, incorporating several of the original features such as the proportions with a case size of 37.5mm, iconic lug shape, font and colouring. Notably, the original watch has a signature red 12 o’clock, just as this new Anniversary Edition.

The enamel dial has been recreated by hand by the skilled Japanese craftsman, Mr Yokosawa, who used only traditional heritage enamelling techniques. The strap also pays tribute to the original ‘Laurel’, made of deep leather. The historical design encompasses a modern Automatic in-house 6R27 calibre movement, with a power reserve of over 45 hours.

This Anniversary Edition timepiece is limited to 2,500 pieces. Available from January on Seikoboutique.co.uk, £1,600
