ACL Essex hosts apprenticeship events to showcase opportunities

To mark Apprenticeship Week, which runs from 6-12 February 2023, adult education provider ACL Essex, part of Essex County Council (ECC), is hosting events on 6 and 7 February to raise awareness of the huge range of apprenticeship and skills opportunities available to everyone.

An in-person Apprenticeship and Skills Fair will take place at Remembrance Square, County Hall, Chelmsford, opposite the library, from 10am-3pm on 7 February. Local providers will be in attendance to talk about apprenticeship opportunities, and attendees will get the chance to talk to people currently taking apprenticeships, look at live vacancies, talk to local education and support services, and find out how to take part in fundraising activities for a local foodbank.

At the Apprenticeship and Skills Fair on 7 February, ACL Essex will be joined by Essex Opportunities, who will showcase their new Apprenticeship Hub, which provides help and support to find and apply for an apprenticeship. ECC’s Entry to Work team will also be in attendance and will provide insight into the range of apprenticeship opportunities they have on offer.

Following this year’s theme for Apprenticeship Week, ‘Skills for Life’, the learning provider is also hosting online events to showcase the variety of apprenticeship opportunities on offer. On 6 February, people will have the chance to find out more about starting an apprenticeship, while an online event that will be held on 7 February will give employers more information about how to recruit or upskill staff using apprenticeships.

Lisa Jarentowski, ACL Essex Principal, is championing the learning provider’s apprenticeship offer. She said: “This year, we’re excited to host apprenticeship events as part of Apprenticeship Week. We have lots of opportunities for apprentices and employers, so why not come down and take a look at what we have on offer?”

Councillor Tony Ball, ECC Cabinet Member for Education Excellence, Lifelong Learning and Employability, added: “We want to dispel the myth that apprenticeships are only for people who have just left school. Apprenticeships are for everyone and can even be used to upskill current staff, so head down to your local ACL Essex centre during Apprenticeship Week and find out about the apprenticeships on offer.”

Apprenticeship Week will take place 6-12 February 2023. During that week, ACL Essex will work together with partner ECC services to dispel myths surrounding apprenticeships, highlight opportunities available to ECC employees, celebrate the achievements of apprentices, and showcase examples and success stories from across the county.
