Christmas football anthem shares festive cheer by helping struggling families fight hunger, with FareShare

For the first time in history, the World Cup is happening over the Christmas period, and what better way to cheer on England than with a football anthem that parodies one of the greatest Christmas bangers of all time. The festive parody, aptly named ‘So here he is, Jordan Pickford’ and sung to the tune of Slade’s ‘Merry Xmas everybody’, combines what us Brits love most about football and Christmas – singing our hearts out to cheesy, catchy anthems.

Filmed in a karaoke-style video, perfect for learning all the lines, and in the catchy melody of Slade’s biggest Christmas hit – So here he is, Jordan Pickford is sure to captivate football fans across the nation this winter, with a chorus lovingly dedicated to the nation’s favourite keeper and his small but mighty arms. In true anthem style, it’s not just the memorable chorus that’ll get you singing either, each verse features different players from the team, including the likes of: Marcus Rashford, Harry Kane, John Stones, Jack Grealish, and even England legend Sir Bobby Charlton.

No charity song would be complete without a worthy cause, and this one is helping to spread the Christmas spirit by asking for donations to FareShare, the UK’s biggest charity fighting hunger and food waste, backed by England striker Marcus Rashford. Rashford’s support of FareShare over the pandemic helped the charity more than double its food provision, helping to redistribute more the equivalent of 132 million meals to vulnerable children, families and individuals. That’s an average of four meals per second.

Christmas is a time for joy and most importantly, enjoying food with the ones you love, but, this year, more than ever, families will be struggling to put food on the table. Donations to FareShare will help them fight hunger across the UK and redistribute good-to-eat surplus food, which would otherwise go to waste, to nearly 9,500 frontline charities nationwide. These charities aren’t just food banks, as most of them help provide wraparound services that tackle the root causes of poverty including homelessness, domestic violence, family break up, and dependency.

Throughout the ages, anthems have gone hand in hand with football tournaments, but with ‘Three Lions’ not providing us much luck in the men’s Euros (lest we forget), So here he is, Jordan Pickford gives us a new, fun way to back the boys in Qatar, with a Christmas twist. All together now:

“Are you hanging England flags up on the wall?
Are you dreaming Marcus Rashford’s got the ball? Do you see a red-crossed face cheer?
When we’re one-up in the game?
And can John Stones keep them quiet for a daaaay?

So here he is, Jordan Pickford
Everybody’s having fun,
Some say he’s got short arms but he’s England’s number one.

Saka’s waiting for Phil Foden to arrive, There’s a bit of open space on the inside. Does your granny always tell ya?
Bobby Charlton was the best,
Then she’s up and cheering Grealish with the reessstttt

So here he is, Jordan Pickford
Everybody’s having fun,
Some say he’s got short arms but he’s England’s number one.

What will Taremi do when he misses and sees Harry score? A-ha-ahhhh!
Are you hanging England flags up on the wall? Are you hoping Gareth Ba-le has a fall?
Are you travelling to Qatar?
On a bus and on a plane?
To go and watch the dragon getting slain.

So here he is, Jordan Pickford
Everybody’s having fun,
Some say he’s got short arms but he’s England’s number one. So here he is, Jordan Pickford
Everybody’s having fun,
Some say he’s got short arms but he’s England’s number one. So here he is, Jordan Pickford
Everybody’s having fun,
Some say he’s got short arms but he’s England’s number one.
IT’S PIIIIIIIIIICKFORD!”

Marie Travers, Head of Fundraising at FareShare, comments: “As the Christmas season coincides with this year’s World Cup, we’re thrilled to be part of this festive football anthem that will help raise money to get more good-to-eat surplus food out to our network of nearly 9,500 charities and the one million people they support. The rise in the cost of living, including the price of food, fuel and energy bills, is having a disproportionate impact on people already struggling to make ends meet. While we’re doing everything we can to get surplus food to people who need it, we do not have enough to meet the skyrocketing demand, as millions more people are being forced into food poverty in communities across the country. By supporting the So Here He Is, Jordan Pickford charity single and donating to Sweet Carol Rhymes’ JustGiving page, you can help support FareShare’s mission to fight hunger and food waste at Christmas.”
