New Halloween Trail To Provide Spooky Fun in Colchester

Visitors to Colchester this Halloween season can enjoy hours of spooky seasonal fun, and freakily good freebies, following the inaugural Trick and Treats trail, app in hand

Halloween lovers of all ages are invited to get on their broomsticks and blow away the cobwebs by getting out together in Colchester this October, to follow the city’s inaugural Trick and Treats trail and pick up fantastic freebies and rewards on the way.

Trick and Treats, designed and created by KAT Marketing, features a free app and a spooky trail of 30 locations across the city centre where intrepid adventurers can find and scan QR codes to unlock rewards in the form of a trick, or a treat, randomly assigned by the app. Trail followers can enjoy freebies, discounts, entries into competitions and more from participating venues… and will be invited to participate in light-hearted forfeits and interactive challenges, all in the name of spine-tingling, family-friendly Halloween fun.

The app is free to download, and the trail is free to follow; one and all are invited to grab your friends, and your mobile device, and get out there together for some thrills and chills in Colchester from 1st-31st October.

Participating locations on the trail include Mercury Theatre, Fenwick, Bill & Bert’s, Emmaus, Dice & a Slice, Meraki Path, Colchester Library, Pirates and Princesses, the Natural History Museum, Paperchase and many more.

The project has been created by KAT Marketing, with support from Section 106 monies and also Our Colchester BID, building on the marketing company’s previous successes locally with sculpture projects such as Octopus Ahoy! which splashed its way across Tendring in 2021, and Stand Tall for Giraffes with Colchester Zoo and Wild in Art in 2013 – as well as festive community trails such as Colchester and Harwich STARS (2019 and 2021).

Katie Skingle, Director of KAT Marketing said: “We’re excited to be launching Trick and Treats for its first year in Colchester this October. We know from experience the huge amount of joy and laughter our trails deliver for the community – as well as businesses – and Halloween is a brilliant time for families to get out together and visit the city centre for some spooky fun, all for free! It’s been great to see the levels of support and involvement from businesses of all kinds across the centre of Colchester, who have pledged some truly ‘spooktacular’ rewards for the Trick and Treats app users. This year is just the beginning… let the Halloween adventuring begin!”

Sam Good from Colchester BID said: “Halloween is a popular time for families visiting Colchester, particularly during October half term. This is a great opportunity for some free spooky fun for all, with the important bonus of increased footfall across the city centre as people of all ages follow the Trick and Treats trail. The BID is delighted to be supporting the project.”

Zoe Lynch, Community and Events Fundraiser at Age Well East, commented: “This is such an exciting project to be involved in and it feels like just what we all need as we head into autumn. We can’t wait to welcome visitors taking part in the trail and share a bit of Halloween fun with them. There are some great surprises planned, which are sure to put a smile on your face, regardless of whether you get a trick or a treat!”

The Trick and Treats app is free and available to download from app stores now. More information about the project can be found at www.trickandtreats.co.uk and #TricksandTreatsColchester on social media.
