Princess Anne, born in 1950, has been a shining example of British fashion for more than 70 years. Not only has she remained committed to fulfilling the queen’s full schedule of royal engagements but she has also long set the bar for style-conscious royals while upholding etiquette.

The princess’s fashion celebrates local designers, fuses modernist twists into heritage silhouettes and is full of investment pieces she’s been rewearing for decades.

As this week marked her 72nd birthday, luxury cashmere brand N.Peal revisits a couple of her most iconic fashion pieces.

Fur-Lined Coats

When thinking of the princess’s outfits, fur coats come to mind. For centuries, fur has often been a symbol of royalty, luxury and warmth so it comes as no surprise that this royal would have a lot of them.

Much like her mother, Princess Anne has been recycling fur pieces in her wardrobe for decades, such as her staple light blue, fur-lined cloak. Originally worn for the first time in 1976, it has been worn to innumerable wedding and winter ceremonies since then.

Bright Colours

Princess Anne’s wardrobe isn’t just about neutral colours. From wrap dresses, to silk dresses and embellished gowns, this fashion forward royal has been stepping out in bold, patterned pieces for decades.

Most recently, the princess opted for a copper orange dress and wide trim hat as she attended the Royal Ascot. In the sunlight, her outfit glistened and shimmered and definitely didn’t disappoint! Recent research shows that searches for burnt orange dresses have increased by 90% and rust dresses by 60% as people aspire to find the perfect look-alike to her dress!
