Ahead of the much-anticipated return of Essex Pride this month, organisers and Essex County Council (ECC) have teamed up to encourage ticketholders to use the new TravelEssex app to plan their journey using sustainable transport.

Marking 50 years since the first UK pride march, Essex Pride is returning on the 25 June, supporting the LGBT+ community across the county and featuring performances from includes acts such as Ella Vaday, Heather Small and Sonique.

The free-to-use TravelEssex app launched in April and has been successful in supporting Essex residents to find sustainable methods of transport to incorporate into their daily lives.

Essex Pride kicks off with a march through Chelmsford, starting in the city centre on Springfield Road.

Information on how to travel by foot, bike, bus and train to both the march and the celebration in the park can be found using the TravelEssex app.

Chair of Essex Pride, Garry Ormes said: “There is a huge buzz for this years’ event as we welcome everyone back, mark the 50th year of UK Pride and stage our first Pride march through Chelmsford to highlight the importance of acceptance and celebrate our differences.

“We want Essex Pride to have both a positive impact on our community and the environment. I would ask the community to consider using the TravelEssex app to plan their journey here and help us all reduce our impact.”

The TravelEssex app was launched to encourage residents to make sustainable journeys more frequently as part of ECC’s Safer, Greener, Healthier approach to travel.

It brings sustainable travel options including buses, trains, cycling and walking, into one convenient place.

By using the calendar sync function, users can let the app calculate travel options to arrive on time for their events and appointments.

Essex Pride is easily accessible by bus and train to the centre of Chelmsford.

Cllr Lee Scott, ECC Cabinet Member for Highways Maintenance and Sustainable Transport, said: “We encourage all Essex Pride attendees to help reduce congestion pressure and emissions in Chelmsford city centre and plan their journeys using the TravelEssex app. It is easy-to-use, completely free and makes planning any journey simple.”

To download the TravelEssex app, search for it on the Play or Apple app store.
