Lloyds Bank has strengthened its support for businesses in the East of the England after appointing Dene Jones as its new regional director.

Dene will lead a 65-strong team in providing support to the region’s small to medium sized businesses as they pursue growth in the economic recovery. He brings over 25 years of experience in commercial banking, after originally joining Lloyds Bank in 1988.

He previously led the Mid-Corporate team in the region for two years before taking up a role at the end of 2020 as National Head of Education, Charities and Government. He will continue to lead the Bank’s support for the Education sector.

Dene has previously worked with and led teams within the bank to support businesses across a wide range of sectors. These include manufacturing, retail, food & drink, agriculture, professional services, education and technology, making him well-placed to support the thriving business community in the East.

The appointment comes at a time when business confidence in the region has dipped amidst inflationary pressures. According to Lloyds Bank’s latest Business Barometer, which tracks firms’ optimism in their own prospects and that of the overall economy, confidence fell by 13 points to 39% in March compared to February.

Dene Jones, regional director for East England at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “The East of England is home to some of the UK’s most innovative knowledge institutions and has a thriving visitor economy. Its strong farming history and ability to cultivate pioneering technology has led it to become the UK’s home for agri-tech, which is driving job creation and supporting the region’s recovery.

“While our latest Business Barometer shows that the region’s economy still has its challenges, there’s reason to be positive. As Covid-19 restrictions come to an end, small businesses in every sector are setting their sights on growth and maximising opportunity. We’ll continue to be by the side of business on this journey, offering the tailored support needed to navigate concerns and continue growth.”
