Peterborough Council for Voluntary Service (PCVS) has received a £1,000 donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes to assist with supporting Peterborough’s charities and volunteering groups.

The charity was set up in 1980 as an umbrella and network organisation to the voluntary sector in Peterborough. Over 40 years later, it is still providing essential support to the Peterborough community.

The donation from the leading homebuilder will help the charity’s services aimed at improving health and wellbeing, building the capacity of individuals and groups to help some of the most excluded members of society, and providing the skills and support needed for many charities and community groups to thrive.

Kalai Short, Communications Coordinator at PCVS, said: “We were extremely delighted to be receiving a donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes that can be put towards funding the range of worthwhile causes that we support.
“The pandemic brought many challenges and we have seen a demand in the needs of the groups and communities we support. Luckily due to our strong connections in Peterborough we were able to react quickly and establish a ‘Support Group’ consisting of community groups and charities across Peterborough. Members of this group were able to provide help to those in most need, resolving urgent issues such as setting up local food banks for families to access food.

“Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund Scheme is fantastic. It really helps to improve the quality of life for those living in their area. The scheme lends itself to the fact that Barratt and David Wilson Homes is not just about building houses, but cares for the people who lives in these homes.

“On behalf of PCVS, I would like to say thank you to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for its valuable contribution. It will help communities in Peterborough recover from the pandemic whether that’s providing support with finding funding opportunities, helping individuals find the right volunteer positions, and much more.”

Daniel Evans, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire, said: “As a leading housebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build, and we are delighted to be able to offer PCVS a donation to support the fantastic work it does.”
