Recycle your Christmas tree and help the local community

Registration is now open for the annual charity Christmas tree recycling home collection service.

Farleigh Hospice will be collecting Christmas trees from doorsteps across mid-Essex on the 7th, 8th and 9th of January 2022.

Farleigh’s merry band of volunteers will be collecting across Braintree, Burnham, Chelmsford, Coggeshall, Danbury, Dunmow, Kelvedon, Maldon, Southminster, South Woodham Ferrers, Stock, Witham and the surrounding areas. Just register your tree before noon on Wednesday the 4th January 2022.

The collected trees are turned into a fuel source for renewable energy as well as into materials for pathways for local parks and cemeteries.

Farleigh Hospice Fundraising Manager, Debbie de Boltz said: “If you’re heading out to buy your tree this weekend, be sure to register to have it collected by us in the new year as part of your Christmas preparations. Your donation will help local charities, so it’s a win win – you’ll be helping the environment and the community without leaving your house! Of the money raised from this scheme, 90% will go directly to Farleigh Hospice and the remaining 10% will be donated to other local charities via the Lions Club of Chelmsford.

“Over the past 18 months we have seen the need for hospice services increase by over 18.5%, but the pandemic has caused a dramatic decline in fundraising. Referrals to Farleigh are set to rise even further in 2022, so we really to do need the help of our community to enable us to continue to care for those affected by life-limiting illness and bereavement. By registering your tree for collection, you are donating much-needed funds to help us to continue to provide our services to mid-Essex.”

Farleigh works closely with JustHelping who provide the logistics programme that allows the hospice to plan the routes as efficiently as possible.

The collections are all made possible thanks to the generosity of Bakers of Danbury, local businesses and individuals who volunteer their vehicles, petrol, time and enthusiasm to help with this scheme.
