THE BREAKFAST CLUB OPENS IN CHELMSFORD

The Breakfast Club is set to open their doors in Chelmsford on the 22nd November 2021.

Taking over the former Café Rouge site on Moulsham Street, this will be the 13th all day eating and drinking caf and The Breakfast Club’s third cafe outside of London. The Breakfast Club in Chelmsford is 4500 ft2 and will seat over 100 customers across two floors.

The much-loved cafs have built brand fame for their take on British caf-meets-American-diner style breakfast and brunches.

And despite 16 years of doing what they do, they still regularly witness queues for their weekend sittings with service continuing into the night offering a full dinner menu and cocktails.

The Chelmsford opening is the groups first acquisition after the past 18-months of challenges, with more in the pipeline. The

Breakfast Club has seen great success with their out-of-London cafe, including Oxford and Brighton that they hope to emulate with their latest launch. On the opening Co-Founder Jonathan Arana-Morton acknowledges ‘’I am in equal parts nervous and excited about our new Chelmsford caf. Excited because it’s our first big step post-pandemic, and a new beginning in an incredibly vibrant city. Nervous because you can never take anything for granted, we’re starting from scratch in a new city and we have a reputation and Chelmsford’s approval to earn’’.

Arana-Morton believes their focus on embracing community and initiatives including their volunteering programme are two of the reasons they’ve had such success with their London cafs. He comments ‘’We are at our core neighbourhood cafs, throughout our 16 years we’ve stayed true to what we believe in. From hosting pensioners in our Islington caf or an older LGBT group in Brighton, we’re committed to contributing to communities’’. And having built their reputation on hosting lively events there’s plenty in the pipeline for Chelmsford – from bottomless brunches to drag bingos (set against a perfect disco ball backdrop).

Alongside their 12, soon to be 13, cafs, The Breakfast Club’s delivery offering was born out of lockdown in May 2020, leading on to them winning the Best Breakfast 2020 at the Deliveroo awards 7 months later, a title they’ve now kept for a second year running.
Earlier this year the group appointed Steve Locke as their interim Managing Director to work alongside the senior team as they focus on expansion in and out of London.
