A popular recreation ground in Vange has had its Fields in Trust status extended to include an additional acre of land protecting it for future generations to enjoy.
In March councillors on Basildon’s Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee approved an application for an extension which has now been formally granted.
In November 2017 an application was approved for a Fields in Trust Deed of Dedication at Kent View Recreation Ground. The decision placed a covenant on the land preserving it as a playing field protecting it from future development.
Committee Chairman Councillor David Harrison said: “It’s great that this application has finally gained official approval after we passed it through committee in March. This playing field is loved by the local community and is enjoyed by many families as well as being home to numerous species of wildlife including badgers, bats and foxes.”
Chairman of the External Affairs, Partnerships and Liaison Committee and ward member for Vange, Councillor Aidan McGurran added: “It’s important to look at ways we can further preserve this community resource for years to come. This land means so much to local families and I am delighted it is now protected from any future development.
“The local community deserves credit for campaigning for years to protect the whole of Kent View Recreation Ground.”
Fields in Trust is a national charity that provides legal protection for playing fields, play spaces and recreation grounds.
