Laundryheap lightens the load of UK’s elderly with free care packages

The recent coronavirus outbreak has caused unprecedented levels of disruption across the country. As a result of subsequent panic buying, the nation’s elderly are feeling the strain when it comes to sourcing essentials.

To address this issue, Laundryheap, an on-demand laundry service, has launched a new initiative to deliver care packages of cleaning essentials to individuals and key charities working with older people, including Age UK.

The “Essentials Packs” contain a range of items including soap, toilet paper, washing-up liquid and toothpaste, and have been made available for fellow citizens to ‘pay it forward’ to charities, elderly neighbours and community members in need.

The launch of the new service follows images of elderly shoppers navigating the emptied shelves of supermarkets circulating on social media earlier this month. The images inspired Laundryheap to shift operations to make it easier for cleaning goods to reach those in need without the need to leave the house.

To get involved, kind-hearted individuals can gift a pack to an older person in need by heading to Laundryheap’s online store.

To pay it forward, users must enter the address of the individual, or individuals, they would like to support. If they would like to gift a care package to an older person but don’t have anyone specific to send it to, then “AGE UK” should be entered. The packs will then be passed along to the charity for distribution.

Laundryheap is distributing these packages at cost, so their key service workers, including warehouse staff, laundry staff and drivers, can continue their tireless work and the UK’s most vulnerable can be supported.

Laundryheap are committed to supporting the UK’s charity sector throughout this period, and welcome any other charities to get involved in this scheme. If they would like to learn more about how they too can benefit from the scheme, they should contact Laundryheap.
