The £4m regeneration of Prentice Place, which includes 15 brand new Harlow Council homes for local people, has been completed.

The regeneration project has seen:

The internal and external refurbishment of all three blocks to create 15 new homes which will all be allocated to local people on Harlow’s housing needs register

Construction of new pitched roofs to all blocks

Demolition of redundant garages to rear of site to create new car parking

Improved parking at the front of the shops
New seating, litter bins, new landscaping and new trees

Improved lighting and CCTV around the site

New storage facilities at the rear of shops to tidy up the area

New cycle and lock up stores for the new housing tenants

Councillor Mark Ingall, Leader of Harlow Council, said: “The regeneration of this area has been a long time coming, but what we have today is an impressive looking neighbourhood shopping area which will also provide much needed Harlow Council homes for local people available on long term secure tenancies. Prentice Place is open for business playing an important part in the daily lives for those in the Potter Street community.”

The 15 new council homes includes 4 flats and 11 maisonettes. The first of the new homes are expected to be ready for occupation next month. The homes will be advertised in the coming weeks for local people on the housing needs register to bid for.

Councillor Mark Wilkinson, Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: “Our top priority for Harlow is providing more and better housing. The 15 council properties will become new homes for local families who are on Harlow’s housing needs register. It was important to us and the local community that all of the new homes were also Harlow Council homes. There are some minor works to complete inside the new homes but we are hoping that the first keys will be handed over to new Harlow Council tenants next month which will be a brilliant landmark for this project.”
