A £100,000 project to install brand new play equipment at Whitmore Park in Basildon has been completed after Basildon Council and community partners and businesses banded together.

The new play equipment, supplied by Proludic Ltd, was installed thanks to contributions of £75,356 from the Veolia Pitsea Marshes Maintenance Trust, £19,387 from Basildon Council and £3,650 from Basildon McDonalds. There were also contributions of £1,106 from the Jolly Friar public house and £500 from West and Coe.

The new equipment was chosen by pupils from Whitmore Primary School.

Chairman of the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee Councillor David Harrison said: “The project team have done an excellent job raising the funds and working together and I am pleased that the new equipment is in place in time for the summer.

“I’m sure it’ll be a hit with the local children for years to come and I would like to thank pupils from Whitmore Primary School for telling us what they wanted in the play area.”

Area Executive for Proludic Ltd Annabel Brown added: “I am very proud to have been involved with the Whitmore community project from the beginning, back in 2017. Hard work from a variety of different parties has made the rejuvenation of this area possible and we are honoured that the community chose the Proludic play equipment to be part of this. Very excited for the play area to be opened and for many memories to be made in the years to come.”
