Harlow, it’s time to get active with the 30:30 Essex challenge!

The Active Essex Foundation will once again be running the 30:30 Essex campaign, which aims to help people kick start a healthier lifestyle by taking part in 30 minutes of physical activity every day in June. This could be anything from taking a brisk walk in the local park to getting involved with a local dance or fitness class, cycling to work or joining in your local Parkrun.

To support the challenge, the Be Well, Work Well, Stay Well sub-group of the Health and Wellbeing Partnership Board held a meeting at the BOUNCE headquarters in Harlow, where they took part in a 15 minute workout session at the start of a meeting. BOUNCE makes exercise fun with a choreographed dance routine performed on mini trampolines and is meant to be three times more effective then floor based exercises. Regular daily exercise is proven to lead to great personal benefits, such as helping to manage or reducing the risk of many long term health conditions such as cancer and dementia, increased energy and stamina, positive mental well-being and improved sociability from joining activity sessions and meeting new people.

Portfolio Holder for Community and Wellbeing, Councillor Eugenie Harvey, said: “The 30:30 Essex campaign provides a great opportunity for people to get active without the pressure of setting targets or partaking in strenuous activities.

“It’s never too late to get started and here in Harlow we have some great free activities and facilities for residents, such as Parkrun and walking sports. You can also get on your bike and take a ride around Harlow’s 30 miles of cycle track.

“My 30:30 challenge will include walking to work, bike rides with my son, yoga and Parkruns. I’m really looking forward to improving my fitness this June and hope lots of other residents will be joining me.”
