MILLIONS of loved-up Brits are so rushed off their feet during the festive season they leave it as late as Christmas DAY to buy presents for their partners.

December 25th sees British couples rushing to log on or disappearing on beyond-last-minute spending sprees to corner shops and petrol stations.

A fifth (19%) of adult Brits in a relationship confessed to last-minute panic buying on Christmas Day in a survey for Virgin Experience Days by Atomik Research.

Nearly half (45%) said they had bought Christmas Day gifts online, 44% from a local shop and 11% had dashed to a nearby petrol station.

Forty-four per cent said they went Christmas shopping on the day itself because they were too lazy.

A third (35%) said they had simply forgotten to buy a loved one a present and 36% because somebody unexpected had turned up for Christmas.
